Pre-Prep
Organisation of the day
The school opens at 8 a.m. and children should be in their classrooms for registration at 8.30 a.m.
Kindergarten may arrive until 9 a.m. This enables parents with younger siblings or simply tired Kindergarten children to have a gentler start to the day.
Please note that the morning session ends at 12 noon. (Kindergarten children staying for lunch, but not the afternoon session, should be collected at 1.15 p.m.)
Children who are dropped off before 8.15 a.m. congregate in the Head's office.
At 8.15 a.m. they go to their own classrooms where they are supervised by their teachers until registration at 8.30 a.m.
The majority of children should arrive for 8.30 a.m.
At 9 a.m. the white door will be locked and any latecomers should use the front door. The white door is alarmed.
Children from Year 2 upward are encouraged to be independent and come into school on their own. This makes the corridors less congested and therefore less hazardous for the youngest children.
Curriculum
The curriculum embraces Numeracy and Literacy as well as Science, History, Geography, Religious education, French, Art and Design, Information Technology, Music and Physical Education. There is a wide programme of outings to enhance their studies further.
The children in the Pre Prep are coached in a variety of sports and have the chance to play in fixtures against other schools when they reach Year 2. During the Summer Term every child takes part in Sports Day, having the chance to show their parents the athletic skills they have acquired.
Language, Maths and Science are core subjects. We place great emphasis on the children being able to read and to think Mathematically. Both English and Maths are taught daily. Throughout the Pre Prep we explore a variety of Science topics and the children are given the time to try 'hands on' experiments. In all subjects they are encouraged to record their work with writing and illustrations.
French is taught from the age of 4. All the children enjoy these lessons, which are taught with a mixture of songs, games and activities.
Computers are now playing an increasingly important role in education, the children go up to the computer room each week to learn basic computer skills.
